Colburn Family History

This page is to explore and record the family histories of people who live or have lived in Colburn. Colburn is an unusual place – it is not a traditional rural village, although it was once one. It is not now part of a city like York or Newcastle. Nor is it a long standing market town like Richmond or Northallerton nor a new town like Newton Aycliffe or an industrial area like Teesside. It owes much of its population, obviously to the presence of the army – Catterick Camp – since 1914. For that reason (and others) the inhabitants come from all over: native Dales people, Scots, Geordies, Fiji, Nepal – even Lancashire!! Here we wish to record where Colburn families came from, why they came here, occupations, how many generations, and their memories of Colburn. We also hope to build up a gallery of pictures of Colburn in the 20th century.
